In Zovirax Cold Sore Cream, aciclovir the antiviral active ingredient – is delivered in a specially formulated cream containing an absorption accelerator. This ensures the active ingredient is carried through the skin, over the cold sore, and into the area where the virus is reproducing. Once it reaches this area the active ingredient springs into action – which makes it difficult for the virus to reproduce itself. When that happens your body’s natural defences can get to work and make the cold sore disappear. The cream also contains ingredients to moisturise deep within the skin to soothe and protect.
It’s better to start treatment with Zovirax Cold Sore Cream as soon as possible because at the start, there is less of the virus around. However, the antiviral and moisturising properties of Zovirax Cold Sore Cream means it’s effective at the blister and tingle phase.
How to use:
The earlier you treat a cold sore, the better.
The best time to start treatment is when that tingling sensation first happens, before any visible sign of cold sore appears. If you miss it, don’t worry, it’s not too late to treat!
It’s always a good idea to pop into your local pharmacy. Many cold sore treatments, available from most pharmacies or supermarkets, act as mild antiseptics and skin moisturisers. Products containing an antiviral ingredient, such as aciclovir, can work against the virus itself.
The amount of cream inside this pack is enough for one cold sore attack. For any future attacks it is important to start treatment at the first signs of a cold sore developing.
· Wash your hands before and after treating the cold sore so as to avoid making it worse or giving the infection to someone else.
· Apply the cream liberally to completely cover the whole of the affected area. Do not touch your eyes until you have washed your hands.
· Apply to the affected area 5 times daily about every 4 hours. If you forget a treatment apply some as soon as you remember, then continue as before.
· Continue treatment for 5 days. If your cold sore has not healed after this time, treatment may be continued for up to a further 5 days. If full healing has not occurred after 10 days, or if your cold sore gets worse at any time, consult your doctor.
Do not exceed the stated dose.
